Help Cathy Reynolds fight cancer, leukemia and VHL

Donation protected
This is my for my wife, Cathy. I’ll try to make a 20+ year story short. Cathy has battled Von Hippel Lindau, a disease that has targeted her kidneys and brain since 2000. She has had multiple open brain and kidney surgeries, leaving her scarred and with 1/3 of a single kidney. In 2019 Cathy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She is currently at Singing River Hospital awaiting transport back to UAB for further treatment. With her treatments, medical bills, out of town lodging, medications and transportation the bills are incredibly intimidating. If you would like to donate we could certainly use a little help. Thank you.

Here are some more details.

In 2000 she started having Migraines. Thinking she had sinus infections she went to the doctor who could not find the source of the headaches. They had an MRI done and 2 days later she was having an open cranium surgery to remove a homangano blastoma tumor from her cerebellum. After her surgery there were tumors still in-operable areas, so they bolted a halo onto her skull which mapped out the radiation beam they used to treat by stereotactically radiating those tumors. Once she was healed up one of her neuro surgeons suggested we look at her kidneys where VHL likes to grow tumors that become renal cell carcinoma. Sure enough they were riddled with tumors. In 2001 she had each kidney partially removed containing the live cancer. Two ribs laying on the kidneys on both sides were removed for a safety zone. In 2005 she went in to have another surgery to remove tumors on her right kidney. The surgeon discovered that her kidney had fused to her back muscles and had to be completely removed. Left with only half of a single kidney, she still had enough kidney function to keep her off dialysis. In 2010 that kidney portion had to be operated on again . With very little to work with they operated and took a fraction of the kidney that had the tumor. She’s left with 1/3 of a kidney total. In early 2019 she had to have another open cranium surgery to remove yet another hamangano blastima from her brain at UAB.  In late 2019, because of the progression of cryoblastation techniques they were able to insert probes through the back to freeze tumors in an effort not to destroy what was left of her kidney. In 2020 she had to do the cryoblastation again, also on more tumors in her piece of kidney. So far these tumors in various parts of her body are the results of Von hipple Landau syndrome. She is 1 in 32,000 statistically. It’s a very nasty disease, there is plenty of information about her condition if you would like to google it. After having the second cryoblastation, she was having blood loss they could not explain. In Cleveland, Oh, doctors tested her blood various ways trying to determine why she was losing blood and platelets. They discovered and diagnosed her with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Since November 15 Cathy has been on a 7-3 chemo regimen. 7 days continuous drip, then 7 more days chemo along with oral pills. She’s been in the hospital for nearly 2 months, has had multiple blood and platelet infusions, and she is preparing to go on her third chemo drip regimen next week at UAB in Birmingham. Everything I’ve told you is verifiable. She’s a good girl, a great wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother. She’s worked for the same employer for 36 years till she went out on medical leave if that tells you anything about her dedication. She’s my queen after 38 years. With these type issues, out of town lodging, medical bills, medications, transportation get very intimidating. We could certainly use a lil help.
