Catherine needs your help to take her invention and her ideas to Michigan!
About Catherine and her invention:
Catherine and her invention “Adaptive Sleeves” have made it through her school competition, regional festival, and at the Statewide Invention Convention at UConn. She recently received an invitation to represent Connecticut at the National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo (NICEE). This year's national convention will be held at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI between May 31st and June 2nd. Students and chaperones will attend the three day convention with the top inventors from across the country. We are hoping to raise funds to enable our family to fly to Michigan for the four day event. Any funds we raise will help to pay the $300 student registration, $350 chaperone registration, airfare, hotel, meals, and other costs.
About Catherine:
Catherine is a fourth grader at CREC Discovery Academy in Wethersfield, CT. Her passions include Art, Music, Writing, Reading, and being creative.
Catherine loves to design clothing and decided to create adaptive, removal sleeves that can allow the wearer to change their shirt from short into long-sleeve. Originally this was a solution for comfort in various temperatures but then she realized that it could also benefit the physically handicapped, temporarily injured, or even as a cool fashion trend. She currently has one shirt made with button-on sleeves but is working on designing others to take with her to the National Finals.
The National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo is an event created by the STEMIE Coalition (a National Committee of experts creating an education framework to elevate youth invention and entrepreneurship education to a core part of K-12 education) for students in grades K-12 to showcase their critical-thinking skills through inventing, innovating and participating in entrepreneurial activities.
