Help Catch 21 and Empower Skid Row!

Donation protected
Catch 21 is a family owned restaurant located at 441 South Central, LA CA 90013 in the heart of Skid Row. Catch 21 opened in 1990 by Kenny Chao and has been operating for over 34 years. We need your help to keep the doors open. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help Catch 21 continue operating from legal fees.

Every dollar donated can be a big help to Kenny’s family and the residential community of Skid Row.

Why does Catch 21 need the money?
Kenny Chao recently received a noticed stating Catch 21 was being seized and auctioned on 3/21/24 if he did not pay the legal fees in the amount of $10,000 plus daily interest. This is from a private lawsuit for a parking lot code violation lawsuit of the Catch 21 property a few years ago. He was not aware he owed such fees until the notice was put on the front door of his establishment last month. With interest accounted for, the final total cost comes to around $12,000.

UPDATE: Catch 21 was able to prevent being auctioned off by borrowing money through a business loan. Donations will be used to pay off the loan.

This is still a lot of money owed in a short period of time for a small business and is a huge burden.

Why Catch 21 Matters:
Kenny Chao and his family are a pillar to the Skid Row community as they feed the homeless and coordinates with various charity outreach programs.

Here are some organization Catch 21 frequently provides space to operate at zero cost
  • Changing the Face of Homelessness (homeless awareness and solutions)
  • Operation Water Drop (providing clean bottled water)
  • Humanity Heroes (providing essential supply packs)
  • Do Good International (providing clothes and more)

Catch 21 is not only a restaurant but a safe haven for the homeless community where they can come to receive a free hot meal, charge their phones and utilize the toiletries. Catch 21 also provides space to the homeless on holidays when their parking lot is not in use.

Catch 21 helps change people’s lives:
Catch 21 provides employment opportunities to the less fortunate down at Skid Row. A former employee Kevin Call, was able to climb that opportunity and use his experiences to change his life around. If we save Catch 21, we can provide more support opportunities so other people can follow Kevin’s footsteps.

Where will the money go and how will it be used?
That is why members of Do Good international have set up a GoFundMe page for Kenny. All money will be given to Kenny’s son Leo Chea. Our goal is to raise $15,000 as that will help offset the transaction fees on GoFundMe assuming each donation is around a dollar. We are also looking into other avenues of raising money for Catch 21 through loans, grants, and other innovative means.

All money will be used to help cover the legal fees that Catch 21 is burdened with. Any left-over will be used to empower Catch 21 to help out the residents of Skid Row such as repairs and feeding the less fortunate.

Each small donation can add up and support the community at Skid Row. Every dollar donated counts!
