Help Catalina and Her Four Children Stay Strong While Their Family Fights to Stay Together

A week that should have been filled with birthday candles, hugs, and laughter has instead become one of the most heartbreaking moments of Catalina’s life.

Next week, Catalina and her youngest son will celebrate their birthdays. Instead of planning a small family celebration, Catalina is trying to answer the hardest questions her children ask every day:

"When is Dad coming home?"

On the morning of June 22, Miguel left home just as he always did, ready for another day of work. He stopped briefly at a Giant grocery store before heading to his job in construction. After parking his car, but before he could even step outside, four vehicles surrounded him. He was detained by ICE and taken away.

That was the last time his family saw him.

Since coming to the United States, Miguel has worked in construction to provide for his wife and their four children. He is the kind of father who worked long days so his children could have a better future. He was the family's only source of income, but more importantly, he is a loving husband and a devoted father whose children adore him.

Their oldest children, ages 15 and 13, love soccer. Like many teenagers, they dream about the future, but now those dreams are overshadowed by fear and uncertainty. Their younger children are only 4 years old and 1 year old. The two youngest are U.S. citizens and are too young to understand why their father suddenly disappeared from their lives.

Today, Catalina is facing every parent's nightmare. She is caring for her four children completely on her own, with no income and no way to afford the legal representation her family desperately needs. She has reached out to attorneys, but every estimate has been far beyond what she can pay.

Every day she worries about keeping food on the table, paying the bills, and giving her children hope while wondering what the future holds.

La próxima semana debería estar llena de velas, abrazos y sonrisas. Catalina y su hijo menor celebrarán sus cumpleaños. Pero, en lugar de preparar una pequeña celebración en familia, Catalina enfrenta el momento más difícil de su vida.

Cada día sus hijos le hacen la misma pregunta:

La mañana del 22 de junio, Miguel salió de casa como cualquier otro día, listo para ir a trabajar. Antes de llegar a su trabajo en construcción, hizo una breve parada en un supermercado Giant. Ese fue el último momento en que su familia lo vio.

Desde que llegó a Estados Unidos, Miguel ha trabajado en la construcción para sacar adelante a su esposa y a sus cuatro hijos. Siempre fue un hombre trabajador, responsable y un padre profundamente amoroso. Los dos pequeños, de 4 y 1 año de edad, aún no comprenden por qué su papá desapareció de un día para otro. Los dos menores son ciudadanos estadounidenses.

Hoy Catalina enfrenta una realidad que jamás imaginó. Está sola, cuidando a sus cuatro hijos, sin ingresos y tratando de mantener la esperanza mientras busca ayuda legal para su esposo. Ha contactado a varios abogados, pero los costos son demasiado altos para una familia que, de un momento a otro, perdió su única fuente de ingresos.

Lo que más le duele no es solo la incertidumbre, sino ver a sus hijos extrañar a su padre todos los días y no tener respuestas para tranquilizarlos.
