Friends! My dog Cassie broke her toe, and the vet bills are becoming overwhelming. Any help — truly any — would be genuinely appreciated.

Cassie is a 1½-year-old rescue from the Oakland Animal Shelter, and we’ve been together for about 6 months. She started out pretty anxious and unsure of the world, but she has been blossoming into the sweetest, silliest girl — full of curiosity, playfulness, and joy.

About three weeks ago, Cassie injured herself at the dog park, and she’s been on strict bed rest ever since. Her treatment has been extensive: initial X-rays, a custom splint to accommodate her extra dew claws, medications, and weekly vet visits to inspect and replace her bandages. She’ll need additional X-rays at the 4-week and 8-week marks to make sure her toe is healing correctly.

To keep her calm and safe during recovery, she’s currently taking three different sedatives twice a day, and her outdoor time is limited to quick bathroom breaks.

I gladly signed up to be Cassie’s person and to care for her through life. I will do anything to keep her happy and healthy, but the bills are putting a significant strain on my finances, so I am asking for help. In total, I am expecting to pay between $7,000 - $8,000 with her insurance covering about 60%.
