Those who know Cassie know that she is one of the most genuine, kind-hearted, loyal, hard working, dedicated, and determined women you’ll ever come across. She is a fiercely strong mother to her amazing son Cannon, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a friend. She is a bright light in so many people’s lives. Someone who is always there for other people but would never ask for anything for herself. Right now, it’s our turn to be there for Cassie.
Cassie is TOUGH. She has battled endometriosis, been through numerous surgeries, and has had to deal with extreme pain that no one should have to endure. And after spending countless days in emergency rooms and hospital beds, Cassie was told that she has stage 4 cancer. Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Peritoneum with Müllerian Differentiation, a rare form of cancer that has spread to her bones, lungs, and liver. And true to her character, Cassie will continue to be strong, optimistic, and determined in her fight.
Cassie and her husband Joe, along with the support of her family and friends, are going to do whatever it takes to ensure that Cassie beats this - no questions asked. Radiation has helped to target the areas in the bone, but this form of cancer is resistant to chemotherapy and therefore did not respond to that treatment. Cassie and Joe recently traveled to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas to meet with a team of doctors to discuss other treatment options. Not only is MD Anderson one of the best cancer treatment centers in the country, but they have three doctors on staff who are experts in this specific rare type of cancer! Meetings with this team have left Cassie and Joe feeling more hopeful than ever. After much discussion and on recommendation from Cassie’s medical team, it’s been decided that Cassie and Joe (and Cannon when the trips are longer) will be traveling back and forth between Seattle and Houston so that Cassie can receive treatment as part of a phase-1 clinical trial. A hopeful and optimistic next step!
