Help Cass and child with Housing
Donation protected
Hello, I am asking for help with moving expenses after some severe hardships over the last few months and years. My child and I need housing, and need help with the up-front costs for moving into an apartment.
I am also in this position because my ex-partner, who is my current roommate, is moving into a new place with friends. I was unable to find anyone to take his spot on the lease due to the expense, so we put in the 30-day notice at the beginning of October. My move-out date is November 1st, and I need the money to move before then, hopefully.
Due to my custody agreement, I have to stay within a specific distance of Irvine, and due to my funding qualifications for childcare, I have to stay in Irvine, CA in order to be able to afford childcare expenses. If I move out of Irvine, I would no longer qualify for the funding, and as such, my childcare doubles in cost, and I would not be able to afford the already very expensive area of Orange County. The city of Irvine is extremely expensive as it is, let alone the fact that Orange County is very expensive, but I am stuck here and have run out of options.
I have been reaching out to find roommates so that I could have more freedom of location and cheaper rent costs; however, everyone has said that they either don't have the space or would not want to live with a child in their home. This includes dozens of inquiries I've made on various roommate searching websites over the last few months.
I do not have family I can live with; they are all in various states across the country, and I cannot move out of state due to custody reasons. I do not have the money for custody court and do not want to lose custody of my child. I also do not have the money to move out of state, so that is not even a possibility.
My family is not offering me financial help for moving costs because they are already barely able to afford their own lifestyles.
I really need help. I only have a week to find somewhere to live. I am at risk for homelessness. I already reached out to County and City Emergency Housing Services, and they informed me there haven't been housing vouchers since 2021. These services are not available. I do not qualify for Section 8 housing because I am outside of the income limits. Social Services is not an option for my child and myself. The waitlists for affordable housing that I do qualify for have been closed since 2012, and that is a 5-10 year waitlist as it stands.
My co-parent has not been paying child support, helping pay for childcare expenses, nor helping with medical expenses for our child. I have been paying for these expenses on my own and going into medical debt as a result.
I had money saved, but because my child's IEP team decided to change school placement, I was forced to enroll her into a new daycare at the new school, and the upfront costs were nearly $1,000 plus an extra $400 per month (with the aid I receive) with no flexibility for my week-on-week-off custody schedule. This means I have had to pay for the days my child is with the father, yet he is refusing to help with the cost.
All this to say, please, donations would help so much so that I can try to find a place to live. I appreciate any help I do get, and all the funds made will be going towards first month's rent and deposits. I need approximately $4,000 just for those. If I have that covered, then I can cover the other moving costs with my current income.
Rent is generally going to be $2,200-$2,400 per month for a 1-bedroom apartment. Deposit is generally going to be the same cost as the rent, possibly less. That is why I am hoping to raise somewhere close to $4,000 over the next few days if possible.
Thank you for all your help, and I really appreciate anything that helps! I do have friends who can help me move and pack. I am very grateful for these people in my life.
