Help Cash's Family in Their Fight

Our friends, Cash, Ryan & Amanda Blanchfield are once again fighting a battle for Cash’s health. In early Spring, Cash began experiencing GI issues, including recurring pain. Countless doctor visits and tests all pointed to a GI infection, so he had been treated for that. Because of Cash’s immunosuppressant drugs from his transplant, it takes his body a lot more work and time to fight infection. In late May, the pain Cash was experiencing was heartbreakingly intense, so the decision was made to admit him to Children’s Hospital in Denver on May 23rd.
On May 24th, Cash underwent an MRI to see if his medical team could identify the cause of his pain. The MRI revealed multiple lesions on his liver. The team decided to take him back immediately to undergo a biopsy to determine what type of lesions these were.
On May 27th, it was confirmed that the lesions on Cash’s liver were malignant tumors. The team ordered PET and CT scans for a deeper look to determine where the tumors originated or if they had spread to any other organs. On this same day, Cash’s heart also had a scary episode, where his heart rate was fluttering. He had to be sedated and have his heart shocked to bring it back to its normal rate.
On May 30th, the results from the PET/CT scans revealed a mass in his colon. Surgery was immediately scheduled for the next day to biopsy this mass and to do a colon diversion and colostomy bag.
On May 31st, the medical team confirmed that Cash has a grapefruit sized tumor on both the inside and outside of the lower portion of his colon. Before surgeons can attempt a removal, the tumor must be shrunk due to anatomy surrounding the tumor. It is believed the tumors originated on the outside of his colon, which explains why it wasn’t found in earlier colonoscopies.
Today, June 3rd, Cash, Ryan & Amanda are awaiting the next steps from his medical team, now including oncology.
As anyone can imagine, this is an incredibly scary and heartbreaking battle that Cash and his parents now face. Their lives have been, once again, flipped upside down. Ryan & Amanda have paused their everyday and work lives to be with Cash around the clock. Cash’s incredibly sweet little sister Audrina anxiously awaits their return home, she deeply misses her brother and Mom & Dad. Anyone who knows Ryan & Amanda knows they would never ask for help. They themselves are the helpers in their families, friendships, and careers. Today, their focus needs to be solely on fighting this battle alongside Cash and anything we can do to relieve their stress of being away from work and mounting medical bills, we want to do! Any support is immensely appreciated – and if financial support isn’t in the cards for you today, prayers, well wishes and sharing their story are equally as important. We’re thankful for any of it.
What we know today is that Cash has a tough battle ahead and we also know that Cash is an incredibly strong kid that has battled before and will do so again. Cash CAN kick cancer’s ass.
Specific prayer requests today:
Pain management.
Lab results pinpointing the type of cancer.
For the medical team, a clear and concise mind to develop a treatment plan.
For Ryan, Amanda, Cash and Audrina’s hearts to be comforted.
THANK YOU!!!
