Medical Care for Cashew
Donation protected
Cashew has been diagnosed with bilateral CCL tears - a torn ligament in each back knee. He needs on-going treatment. We were quoted $12,000 for surgery by several local vets. His regular vet told us most people can't afford it and he would not be the best candidate because he's older and has arthritis. So we're focusing on other options - pain management, physical therapy, and hopefully custom leg braces. It costs about $1900 for the leg braces.
Like a lot of us, I don't have a very high income, so this is tough. I'm still recovering logstically from a lot of hardships I've been through as a result of retaliation for seeking help when I was being abused as a kid. That has been an on-going situation and the resources that claim to help people fall short, at best doing nothing, and too often, just perpetuating the abuse. Unfortunately, conservative Christians tend to excuse abuse and victimize survivors. And it's not uncommon to encounter them working in supportive services, and actively harming people who seek help.
I also face discrimmination for a lot of different reasons (genderqueer, disabled, lower income, having lived a different kind of life), and I got screwed over with a storage situation during the pandemic. They raised the rent so high that I can't afford to travel to get my stuff out of storage and I'm stuck paying close to $500 a month.
I have made progress on overcoming a lot of stuff, but I still don't make enough money to give Cashew the quality of medical care that I'd like to. He has been there for me while many humans just mock me, abuse me, and turn their backs on me. I want to give him the best care that I can. He deserves it.
Thank you for your support!
