Our sweet and energetic 6-year-old nephew, Cash, was recently diagnosed with Influenza A and was recovering at home when things took a terrifying turn. On Tuesday, February 11th, Cash woke up unable to walk completely out of the blue and was rushed to the ER.
At the ER, his lab work revealed dangerously high creatine kinase (CK) levels—over 8,000. (CK is an enzyme found in muscles, and normal levels for children are typically under 150.) Elevated CK suggests severe muscle breakdown, putting stress on his kidneys, which is why he’s being closely monitored for possible complications. His levels remain above 5,000, the threshold for hospital discharge (along with being able to safely walk again), meaning his road to recovery is still ongoing.
Cash was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a very serious complication from his Influenza A and has been admitted to the PICU where he’s receiving intensive IV fluids, physical therapy, and around-the-clock care. Cassie and Josh have not left his side. Unfortunately, this means missed work and financial strain—especially for Cassie, who relies on tips as a server and bartender.
We’re humbly sharing Cash's story and asking for support to help ease their financial burden so they can focus entirely on Cash’s healing. Any donation will go toward medical expenses, lost wages, and the essentials they need to get through this difficult time.
Please keep Cash in your thoughts and prayers, and thank you for any support you can provide. ❤️
