My name is Josie and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my lifelong friend, Casey. On the afternoon of March 16th, 2026 Casey received a heartbreaking phone call. Her father had passed unexpectedly, states away in Utah. Growing up as an only child, Casey and her dad, Mark, have always shared a close bond. Mark was a gentle and thoughtful man, loving father, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Casey cherishes memories of her father teaching her to surf, driving her and her friends to their sporting events, and receiving loving, fun videos from him throughout her busy days. Casey is currently attending graduate school in California, working a job outside of school, and participating in two unpaid clinical internships, all with the goal of becoming a therapist and dedicating her life to helping others. She is no stranger to deep loss – an experience that has unequivocally made her the warm and kindhearted woman she is today.

Now, as her father’s next of kin, she is faced with the difficult responsibility of making arrangements for his final goodbye. At the time of his passing, he did not have life insurance nor assets. With her parents divorced and her mother unable to help financially, Casey is left to navigate this situation on her own. Being in graduate school, money is already extremely tight. Casey is paying for her schooling on her own, and has had to accumulate significant student debt to make ends meet. As a student, employee, intern, and now grieving daughter, Casey has an unthinkable weight on her shoulders.
