To all of our friends and family,
It is with extreme sadness I have to write this, but the past week has been gut wrenching and very difficult for Casey and I. On Friday 9/5 around 8:15pm Casey was t-boned by a drunk driver on his motorcycle, with our beloved dog, Darla, on his back. Very fortunately Darla is okay, but sadly that is not the same for Casey.
He is currently in the hospital, and I have been by his side everyday since the accident. He has a very long road of recovery ahead of him and has already underwent three surgeries. His first surgery was to repair his proximal humerus and clean the multiple compound fractures to his tibia and fibula, along with his ankle and foot. During the first surgery, we received the heartbreaking news that the best option for Casey regarding the injuries to his leg and foot was a below the knee amputation.
His second surgery was Monday 9/8, where they did an open amputation so his trauma tissue could heal or further be removed. Wednesday 9/10 he had his hopefully last surgery, closing the amputation. He is still in tremendous pain.
Casey is going to need intense inpatient and outpatient therapy, putting him out of work for the unforeseen future. I also will need to be taking a short period of leave from my job in order to aid in his path forward.
Without insurance, we are uncertain about what our bills will look like, if the intoxicated driver who hit him even has insurance, and if so what will even be covered.
For this reason we are humbly asking for any help from our community to help ease at least some of the hardships we are facing. Thank you so very much for any support, even sharing this helps tremendously. I will update everyone here as we know more and weather on through his recovery. We love you all so much, thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Megan
