Help Us Keep Our Home and Get The Medical Care We Need!

My name is Casey. Both my partner and I are disabled with multiple chronic conditions that has limited our ability to work. A few months ago my partner was wrongfully let go from their job. They had been working there for almost a decade and were on FMLA for the last seven due to their health problems and needing accommodation. Even though my partner applied within the timeframe to renew the FMLA, our local clinic had not submitted the paperwork back before it expired and their employment took it as an opportunity to let them go. (We have an appointment with EEOC in November.)
While my partner was employed, they were also basically my caretaker. For the last eight years I have struggled and fought against medical fat bias to finally get acknowledgment on my conditions in order to apply for Disability. I applied last year in May and on July 3rd of this year I received my denial.
My partner cannot work without serious accommodations and even though technically no employer is allowed to discriminate against those with disabilities or chronic conditions, most jobs will not hire them because they cannot provide the flexibility my partner needs. That’s why they were on FMLA to begin with.
I have recently obtained a lawyer to appeal the Disability decision and my partner has looked into taking some courses (Vocational Rehabilitation) that will allow them to hopefully find employment that will work around their disability, but it will take them at least six months to complete.
We have no income. No savings. We tried unemployment and were denied. Multiple times. We are currently on EBT, but that’s just for groceries. It doesn’t buy us any basic toiletries, gas, or hygiene products. And though we did receive some rental assistance, it is running out. Our time is running out. We desperately need the community’s help for the next few months to keep a roof over our heads and our lights on while we do what we can ourselves.
So I have finally decided to start a GoFundMe. I truly am forever grateful for the support from anyone that is willing and that wants to help whether that’s financial or by sharing the link. Thank you always, for everything.
