Since 2019 Casa Mariposa has been a one-of-a-kind non-profit program offering affordable housing for families who are seeking to make a better life for themselves and their loved ones. People don't just magically land on their feet after enormous emotional, financial risks and losses they endure. They work hard physically, emotionally and spiritually to tap into their inner reserves of hope and stamina.

But most of the time, families can't do this alone; they need a loving place to feel safe along with loyal community who believes in them and supports their dreams.

The Problem:

Casa Mariposa means Butterfly House in Spanish and was created to make a way where there was no way… we could see across the community of Lynn and the state finding themselves in unsafe and out of control housing situations… landlords refuse people housing if they don’t have conventional jobs … families are afraid to report public health and safety concerns in their buildings because of fear of retaliation from landlords… the rent prices in this community are so out of control in this community that people have to pack 2-3 families in one apartment just to make ends meet. Without help from the government of safety net programs and other supports families find themselves in untenable circumstances.

The unique solution:

Casa Mariposa was created out of this problem. With a unique system of support we combine both affordable rent as determined by the families themselves, no profit housing costs, and the generosity of sustaining sponsors to make up the difference between what the families can afford and what the house costs to run. We have created a communal house for families who live here as long as they need to get on their feet. Since 2019 we have provided housing to over 20 families from 9 countries who are seeking a better life for themselves and their future.

Casa Mariposa represents the values of dignity and worth for all people, and commitment to housing as a HUMAN right.

But we can’t do this alone.

Casa Mariposa is preparing to make some major improvements to our beautiful but very old (built in 1839) home and we need the investment of community members who want their dollars to reach generations into the future. It is told that the beat of a butterfly’s wings on one side of the planet can trigger a tsunami on the other.

We have an incredibly dedicated skilled group of volunteers who enthusiastically and cheerfully step up to paint, repair everything from a stuck front door to figuring out how to repair a leaking crack in the ancient kitchen sink and SO many other projects in between. We are beyond grateful.

Even so, major projects need funding.

100% of your gift will go to these projects with no overhead whatsoever.

The GoFundMe Goal: $50,000

Replace the kitchen floor and add an additional stove

(It is challenging to cook with one stove for 18 people!)

Replace (at least) 17 windows

Rental support

Funds for upkeep and maintaining plumbing projects, heating, and alarm systems

Deck and gutter work

Assist with monthly maintenance costs
