Help Carson’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected

Carson is a born and raised Ferndalian. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 2019. Since then he has bought his first home in November of 2020 and has been working for Whatcom County Public Works as a Road Maintenance Worker for the last 2 years.

If you know Carson, you know he is good for a laugh and a smart ass remark. But he has one of the kindest and most caring hearts. When he’s not working, you can find him swimming, hanging out with his friends, watching movies, or yelling obnoxiously at the TV during a football game.

On Tuesday July 21st, Carson woke up and went to work like any other day. Unbeknownst to him it would not be. Carson and a coworker were weed whacking Lummi Shore Drive, when a driver under the influence crossed the centerline, rode the guard rail for approx. 150-200 yards before striking both boys. Per his coworker, Carson recognized the car coming and warned his coworker - allowing his coworker time to attempt to jump out of the way and as a result was only be clipped.

Carson ultimately took the vehicle head on and was drug for an unknown length before the driver struck the boys’ work vehicle, where it came to rest.

Carson was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham, WA. While enroute to the hospital, Carson was intubated (given a breathing tube) due to worries of possible head and neck injuries.

Aside from being covered head to toe in road rash, Carson’s CT showed minor bruising to his brain, a broken shoulder blade (scapula), a laceration to his spleen, and a small pneumothorax.

After some X-rays and MRIs today, Carson was informed he has a torn MCL, a potentially torn ACL, and a broken ankle.

Carson is currently extubated and scheduled to be hospitalized until at least Friday as they continue to work on managing his pain, watching for infection, and internal bleeding.

Due to the extent of Carson’s injuries, he will be out of work for a while rehabbing and healing. L&I is only covering a portion which will still leave him with unpaid bills. We created this GoFundMe to allow him peace of mind when it comes to paying his bills, allowing him to focus on healing and rehabbing. Thank you for reading.
