Hey everyone!
My name is Carson, and I'm a gay, trans man who is trying to do a cross country move on short notice to live with my partner!
My partner, Casper, and I have been talking about moving me across the country to live with him for a few months now, but there have been some road bumps trying to get this to happen.
However, we are now both in crunch mode as both of our living situations have changed very quickly. Rather than me just making a small move nearby, and then a larger move again in the near future, we are going to try to get me to the Great Lakes area, where he's relocating.
Where we are moving is a much safer state politics-wise than where Casper lives now, and is still safe for me coming from California. We shouldn't have to worry too much about access to trans healthcare, and can be relatively open about being a gay couple. Additionally, we are still within driving distance for a lot of conventions, or a short (and cheap!) flight away to some of the cons further south.
Why a fundraiser?
I lost my job back in September and have been treading water just trying to stay on top of bills. I currently live paycheck to paycheck (...sorta. My account is constantly at zero or in the negatives) and have absolutely no way to save funds, much less save them on such a short notice.
The short notice is due to both my partner and I's living situation changing on a short notice (with me losing roommates and his situation taking him to the Great Lakes). We were planning to move in together at some point this year or early next year regardless, but it's happening a lot sooner than we anticipated and it's causing us both to relocate, rather than just me.
Goal and Cost Break Downs
I need, at minimum, $2000 to cover my basic moving costs (after GFM fees). The goal of $3000 is ideal as that would cover lodging, food, and preventative maintenance on my car before the drive. Anything over will be cushion for bills and cover new registration fees when I cross over into a new state.
The break down is as follows:
- U-haul U-box Container: $1600
- Gas: ~$250 (at $5/gallon for 2,200 miles at 45 mpg)
- Lodging: ~$400 (4 nights of hotels at $100/night)
- Preventative maintenance on my car: ~$200
- Moving supplies: ~$100
- Flight for Casper: ~$150
- Buffer for fees, food, increased gas prices, and other expenses: $300
Total: $3000

Addressing Potential Questions or Concerns
- "Didn't you just move a few years ago?"
Yes, I moved from Montana to California back in 2022. The purpose of the move was different (was fleeing from a red state I could no longer afford to live in to a blue state).
- "Do you have a job in the new place you're moving?"
No, not yet, though I am actively applying to places.
- "Then how are rent and deposit going to be handled?"
We have this figured out with the third person living with us. Additionally, Casper does freelance art which he can immediately start doing once we are settled. I can also Doordash if needed if it comes down to it.
Thank you for your time, and know that we appreciate any donations and shares. ♥️
