Exciting news! Carrie Kaufman has been recognized as a finalist for the Mirror Awards!

To understand Carrie is to see her through her daughters' eyes.

Our mom. Carrie Kaufman. How we know her. How you know her. We also know this: it’s not often you meet someone as extraordinary, hardworking, and resilient as Carrie Kaufman. She raised us as a single mom, since we were 4. We’ve watched her go through the ebbs and flows of being a journalist in America - dedicated to the higher cause, but met with the unfortunate reality that journalism doesn’t really pay much, and that practicing journalism in today’s America is heartbreaking. What sets my mom apart is that she is not only a great journalist who consistently raises the bar with her writing, multi-media, and podcasting work, but she deeply cares about the industry and the trajectory it’s being taken in. Growing up, she taught us how to be critical of media around us, and to question the things we didn’t understand with an optimistic skepticism.

Now, she has been nominated for a Newhouse Mirror Award for her critical insight into the state of journalism. This is a national award. The ceremony is in New York in June. We want to help her get there, and stay in a swanky hotel (or maybe just a good mid-priced one). And we need your help.
