Help Carriacou Rebuild -Kokomo’s Hurricane Beryl Relief Fund

Donation protected
Dear Friends,
Prior to Hurricane Beryl, almost no one knew Carriacou, Grenada existed. It was a “well-kept secret” island in the Caribbean, beloved by its’ natives (aka “Kayaks”), the cherished friends introduced to it and the few tourists who stumbled upon it and kept returning to paradise.
Carriacou is more than just another island; it is a close-knit community where everyone knows and supports each other.

How We are related to Carriacou:
Carriacou is also my roots: my grandparents raised my dad, Clinton Mckenzie, and his eleven siblings there. My extended family of “cousins” and I spent endless idyll summer months there surrounded by family and friends who nurtured us and made me quintessentially Caribbean. It was a transportive place, reminiscent of the 1970’s, where you went to get away from it all. It is where the dreams of Kokomo Restaurant were born.

Hurricane Beryl decimated Carriacou, badly damaging or destroying up to 98% of the homes, businesses, infrastructure and greenery. Amid this calamity, our Kayak resiliency shines through. The community has rallied, helping and supporting each other with the cleanup and the beginnings of restoration but they cannot do it alone. The road to recovery is long and challenging.

Use of Funds and Transfer Plans:
As the initial shock wears off, it is critical that we get our Kayak family back into their homes to start rebuilding. We understand how important home is to a Kayak.

Our goal is to raise funds to rebuild roofs, provide building materials, mattresses, and household support so that they can move back into their homes for some semblance of normalcy as they focus on rebuilding the community.

None of the proceeds will be used by us personally. We are purchasing tarpaulins and mattresses for delivery directly to Ministry for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Carriacou, Grenada.

The support continues:
Please continue to donate to help Carriacou rise again. It starts with as little as a $1 contribution and sharing this story. With your help, they can bring hope and strength back to their community. Every donation, no matter how small, brings them one step closer to recovery.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

With gratitude,
Ria Mckenzie-Graham & The Kokomo Family
