Susan was not only my sister, but also my best friend and lifelong confidant. Throughout her illness, I visited her at least once a week in the skilled nursing facility. We would talk for hours, share laughter, play cards, and support each other through every challenge. Susan was a wonderful listener and always offered advice and encouragement, even during her most difficult days.

When Susan needed care, Medicaid helped with many of the costs, but there were still significant expenses left uncovered. I took out loans to pay the balance of her skilled nursing care, her insurance, and other necessary expenses, including her funeral. These debts have become overwhelming since her passing. The high interest rates on the loans have made it nearly impossible to keep up with monthly payments, and I am now struggling to cover my own basic needs.
