Hi out there, my name is Loren Tomlinson and a Highline high school pirate, class of 59 and I have a friend, her name is Carolyn Cosa-Manly. Carolyn was on the yell staff and you would see her cruising up and down the sidelines with Pom Pom's swirling in the air encouraging fans to yell and scream like, hold that line or make that basket.

 

Carolyn was a pretty young lady. Her smile lit up the room. She was always volunteering-her uncle owned a unlimited hydro and Carolyn poured herself into Seafair taking me into the pits explaining all the details it takes to put on a hydroplane race.

 

As it was with our and other generations of that era most of us were looking at college, a love, marriage kids and a family and this was the road Carolyn chose. Me, I wanted to sail around the world and within a year I was headed for the Galápagos Islands.

 

I lost track of Carolyn until our 60th reunion, this voice coming up behind me saying, “Loren it's me Carolyn.” I turned and was shocked, she didn't have any teeth.

 

Like other women, Carolyn got breast cancer, only with Carolyn her immune system reacted negatively to the radiation and chemo. All her teeth broke off at the gum line. I want to help her, she lives on a $800 SS check a month. I had heard of these crowd platforms and picked Go Fund Me. Talking with Ralph Fidler who had experience with GFM he agreed to co-sponsor Carolyn with me.

 

Hip hip hooray! How would you feel being 80+ years old without teeth? No chewing. No smiling!
