Help Carol's Family Rebuild Safely

Hey, my name is Carol. My kids and I have been in an abusive situation and it's our time to start over with a new life. My soon-to-be ex-husband never had stable employment and is an alcoholic who would go into a rage at the drop of a hat. We walked on eggshells around him for almost 13 years. In the last year, everything has come to a head, culminating in him being arrested after some of the truths of what he has done have been brought to light. On Tuesday, May 13th, I had had enough, so I picked up all my kids after school and we all decided we could not go home. Instead, we went to the police department, where we told our story. On the advice of the officers there, we filed statements pertaining to the abuse we endured over the years. They also encouraged us to not go home that night and to get in touch with anyone who could take us in temporarily because it would not be safe to go back. The sheriff's office began their investigation into the claims we made on our statements, and 9 days after stepping foot into the police department, our abuser was arrested.

We had been struggling financially for about a year, and now we can't afford the house we had been renting on my income. We have run out of time, run out of options, run out of a safe place to live, and run out of money. We have a limited amount of time to be in the place we are staying, so we have to find an apartment to move to that we can afford. We need to get in somewhere very quickly. We only have a couple of weeks to find a place. Unfortunately, the cost of getting in somewhere is higher than we have money for. We would need the application fee, deposit, and first and last month's rent, plus getting the utilities hooked up. Once we get moved in, it would take some time, maybe a few months, to get back on our feet financially. If we had a little extra money to put towards all of this, it would definitely help.
