On the morning of August 23rd, my sister Caroline's apartment was destroyed by a fire. The fire was started in the kitchen of the restaurant on the ground floor of her building. Caroline called that apartment home for almost a decade and, as you can see from the photos, practically everything in her living space has been destroyed.
While the fire consumed all of Caroline’s personal belongings, there are a few things we can be grateful for:
1) Caroline was away when the fire occurred, so she is healthy and unharmed (Thank God).
2) Her sweet kitty, Vivian (shown in the photos), was rescued by the firefighters with minimal harm.
Right now, Caroline is facing the daunting and frankly overwhelming task of rebuilding her life from scratch. She needs to replace nearly everything she owned, from her computer and office setup to her furniture and everyday essentials such as clothing, shoes, kitchen equipment, and supplies.
Being that she’s been fully displaced by the fire, she is facing the sizeable upfront costs that come with securing temporary housing and, most importantly, finding a new permanent place to live for her and Vivian.
Can you help Caroline rebuild and get back on track?
Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly toward helping her accomplish this difficult but ultimately doable task.
All proceeds will only go to the essentials required to begin again:
- Relocation costs (new apartment, security deposit, etc.)
- Basic necessities
- Food
- Clothing
- Supplies for Vivian, her cat
- Furniture and bed
We are deeply grateful for all of the kindness and generosity from our friends, family, and community during this difficult time.
This is one of those things we never imagine could happen to us, that’s happening right as we speak. Without our family, friends, and community, we would be lost.
Despite this tragedy, Caroline is doing fairly well; she’s gaining optimism and looking ahead to the future.
So, thank you for being there.
In addition to whatever donation you might have to offer (or even if you can’t!), please consider sharing this page with your friends and family and let them know what Caroline means to you.
With love and gratitude,
Nick
