Caroline Parkes is a 59-year-old mother, animal lover, and beloved member of the Ballito, South Africa community. Many know her as the kind-hearted lady who walks and cares for dogs with endless love and dedication. She has always been someone who gives more than she has — whether it’s a helping hand, a listening ear, or simply a smile that makes others feel at home.

Caroline has spent her life working hard to provide for herself and her daughter. Despite challenges, she has always pushed through with determination and warmth. Unfortunately, she is now facing one of her biggest battles yet.

Recent medical results have placed Caroline at high risk of developing cervical cancer in the near future. To protect her health and future, she urgently needs a hysterectomy surgery. The procedure, however, comes at a cost of R160,000 or roughly £6800 an amount far beyond her means.

Caroline doesn’t have private medical aid, and while she has recently been added to a hospital plan, there is a mandatory waiting period of 3 months and a 12-month wait for pre-existing conditions. Government healthcare is not a safe or timely option in her case. (South Africa)

On top of the surgery expenses, Caroline will be unable to work while she recovers — and because her dog walking and sitting is her main source of income, this means no work, no pay, and no way to cover even her basic living costs.
