Caroline Corder and Caleb Hayes have been together for 9 years, while they may not be legally married they are married in every other meaning of the word. Caleb proposed to Caroline in early 2021 and they are planning to pursue their marriage license this year.
On January 30th, 2022, Caroline woke up to her fiancé, Caleb, violently seizing. He became confused about who he was, who she was, and believed the year was 2019 and Obama was president.
Unable to carry him, she was forced to call an ambulance to come to their aid and take him to the hospital. Once there, she believed that they would run the necessary tests to figure out what could’ve caused this episode. Instead, they discharged him that night, and according to Caleb they diagnosed him with a back spasm (there’s no documentation of this in the discharge papers) and failed to prescribe anything to help with the seizures or the pain. At the time of his discharge, Caleb was barely able to walk and required assistance to leave the hospital. This was clearly negligent, and less than an hour later, Caleb had two additional violent seizures. Only this time, Caroline had her friends there to help get him back to the hospital.
When Caleb was readmitted to the hospital, the staff ran the requisite tests they neglected previously. Upon doing their jobs, they realized Caleb had pneumonia. They are working to get this under control before trying to understand his seizures. He will require neurological care for six months after he’s discharged and will be unable to drive.
As of now, Caroline has no right to his care. She cannot advocate for him or even enroll him the insurance he desperately needs. This GoFundMe is to assist with his medical bills and any time they may need to miss work.
