Help Carol recover & back to the animals in need
Donation protected
Hello everyone. I have never written anything like this so please bear with me.
I’m writing this for my mother, Carol, who recently had emergency surgery in Mexico. My mom has devoted the last 10 years of her life to single handedly carrying for stray and abandoned animals. She has spent every penny she receives beyond her basic needs to provide desperately needed care for hundreds of animals. She provides everything from surgeries, vaccines, medicines, food, teeth cleaning, grooming and lots of love to every animal in her care. At this time, she has 18 cats and 9 dogs, but that number fluctuates as no animal in need is turned away.
On the night of November 4, she was rushed to hospital in Ajijic, MX with severe stomach pain and blue lips. After multiple tests she was quickly taken into surgery where they spent 7+ hours repairing a collapsed colon, blocked ileum and two hernias. She spent the following week in hospital.
Of course, I tried to rush down for this very serious surgery, but as luck would have it, I tested positive for covid (for the first time) the night before my flight.
The airline would only rebook at such a cost that was more expensive than the original ticket, so we lost the flights for both my daughter and myself.
Throughout this stressful time, family and friends have pulled together and sent her all the money we could, however her medical bill was $39,000 CAD.
We also found out she needs another surgery as she is at risk of an intestinal blockage again due to a very large 7 inch hiatal hernia which is falling into her chest cavity; and her stomach has fallen into the hernia. This surgery is an additional $10,000 possibly more depending on the length of hospital stay. The surgeon was not able to do this at the same time as the repairs were too extensive. She needs help for recovery now and then again for this surgery.
I know it is a tough time of year for many, but every little bit helps and is so appreciated! If you aren’t able to donate, sharing it is much appreciated as well!
Thank you so much for reading our story.
UPDATE: mom d recovering very well but then verifying of March mom was having some pain so we went back to the surgeon. A mass was found on her liver and further tests were required. A CT/MRI 10 days after that showed huge differences from the CT just 10 days prior. It now shows metastatic disease in her liver, gallbladder, lymph nodes and esophagus. As the system cannot help her fast enough and the effectiveness of chemo/radiation in this case very poor we are doing everything we can alternatively in the meantime.
Any help for multiple medications/supplements, travel costs (when we will need to travel in/out of city) and healthy food for her is greatly appreciated!!!
