My name is Olivia, and I am raising funds for my sweet friend, Carol King, who is battling stage 2 breast cancer.
As of June 11, 2022, Carol's prognosis is good but has a long and difficult journey ahead that includes 18 weeks of chemo to shrink the tumors, followed by a mastectomy, then 4-6 weeks of radiation. She is at risk for several specific complications. She has already purchased a wig and is currently fighting COVID -- which she contracted in the hospital while getting her chemo port implanted -- trying to return to work Wednesday, so she can log enough hours to qualify for FMLA benefits.
Those of you who understand that chemo is the administering of poison to cancer cells will appreciate how physically and emotionally difficult such a long regimen and disfiguring surgery will be. Carol is understandably worried how she will pay her cost of living and medical bills as she juggles work and time off. I thank you for considering if you may be able to lessen her financial burden.
Many of you know Carol from when she was living in the South Bay doing full-time missionary work. Upon receiving a scholarship to pursue advanced studies at the University of St. Andrews, Carol spent the last few years in Scotland. After finishing her studies, Carol returned to the United States during the pandemic and is now living near family in Waterford, Michigan.
