In the wake of Hurricane Helene, my mother, Carol, and my brother, Jon, have faced an unimaginable loss, as their home took in three feet of water, rendering it unlivable and filled with mold. They’ve lost most of their belongings, including essential appliances and furniture, and now find themselves in a difficult situation. My mom is a devoted mother to Jon, her adult son with Down syndrome, who is 100% dependent on her care.
