Carol's Cancer Care Fund (see update)

Hi, my name is Grace (left in photo),  and I'm the Daughter of Carol (center). Her first daughter, Katie, is on the right.  I am beginning this fundraiser because in June 2021 my mother was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer, Grade 4 Glioblastoma. Ever since then, we (her loving and indestructible family powerhouse team) have been scrambling to ensure we do everything we can to keep our beloved mother, sister, friend, aunt, great-aunt, grandmother, in our lives for as long as we can.


Carol’s tumor is located in a very delicate part of her brain that controls function and sensation to the left side of her body. She has already lost some function and sensation in her face, and after the biopsy, lost most sensation in her left hand. Sounds scary, right? Believe me, it is. I won't go into too much detail, but this is an incurable, rapidly growing cancer. Treatments and surgeries can prolong life, but this stubborn cancer will always be with Carol. 


With the generous donations from so many of you, we will be able to pay for the costly secondary insurance plan that will give Carol access to THE BEST doctor (Dr. Berger of UCSF) on the West Coast to perform a resection of Carol's tumor. We will be forever grateful for your generosity.


Our focus is not only on fighting brain cancer, but also supporting Carol to live life to the fullest everyday. Carol's income has changed significantly as she is being forced into early disability retirement, so the weight of Carol’s cancer care related bills is heavy on top of an already challenging circumstance.  If you choose to contribute, your donations will be used to pay for daily in-home care, insurance premiums, medication, and transportation to radiation treatments.


We had a difficult time deciding to start a fundraiser for Carol. To be completely frank, it feels especially unnatural to ask for financial support, even though we're going through this very trying time. We don't want anyone to feel pressure to donate. There are so many ways to offer support (check out Carol’s caring bridge site for more ideas)! Carol has had so many friends and family members reaching out saying they would love to support in this way. To that we say, thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We're astounded by all the amazing people who love Carol and want to help in the many ways possible.
