On Saturday, June 27, flash flooding struck Richmond, KY, engulfing the home of Carol (87) and Danny Angel (92). Water from a nearby creek rose rapidly, filling their 8-10ft high furnished basement and rising to three feet on the ground level. The high water mark on the exterior measured five feet, leaving everything in the basement and most of the ground floor destroyed. Only items stored high up or hanging on walls survived. Their vehicle was also ruined, with water reaching above the seats and rendering it unusable.
Carol and Danny, who have lived in their home for 35 years, lost nearly all their personal belongings. Danny, or Papaw, is a US Army veteran who is now legally blind. He deeply misses his home and possessions and is struggling with being displaced. Carol, lovingly called Ninnie, is still in shock from the traumatic experience of being inside the home as it flooded. She is having difficulty comprehending the extent of their loss.
Donations to this GoFundMe will help Carol and Danny with long-term recovery and cover unexpected expenses as they navigate the aftermath of this disaster. Any support from the community would mean the world to them as they try to rebuild and recover from this devastating event.
