Help the Beales Family - Carol's Cancer Fundraiser
Spende geschützt
Carol and Johnny met as youngsters, in 1972, when she moved in next door to his family and his oak tree held her tree swing. After six years of bonding under that old oak, she moved away.
Fast forward 38 years...
Carol had recently escaped an abusive marriage and was rebuilding her life when she reconnected with Johnny in 2015.
It wasn't long before Carol had moved to Virginia to help Johnny care for his dying father. When that season had passed, they found their perfect little hunk of paradise in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
They bought an old hunting cabin and began fixing it up....and got married in 2018! They were so looking forward to happily ever after. Two months later, Johnny got his cancer diagnosis.
He went through surgery, then radiation. The radiation triggered uncontrolled dormant Rheumatoid Arthritis. Johnny was unable to work through most of 2019.
Then the pandemic hit and his doctor forbade him to work due to this compromised immune system and RA, and they subsequently applied for disability. Thankfully, it was finally awarded after almost a year of very limited income. Then, a few days before Christmas 2020, Carol got her ovarian cancer diagnosis.
She's undergoing surgery on February 4th for a full hysterectomy, and won't know until afterward if she will also need chemotherapy. She currently has multiple small masses on her liver & lungs that seem to be benign, but doctors are keeping a close eye on them.
The consistent health issues have stretched them to the max -- they have depleted all of their resources and worry about losing their beloved home. All work on the cabin has ceased and they are barely making ends meet, struggling to have gas for medical appointments and basic living expenses for themselves and Carol's youngest daughter, Hannah, who is in her last year of High School in Front Royal. The disability payments will not begin until the end of February 2021, which leaves the Beales scrambling to pay bills and have gas/grocery money until then.
"We have lived off of less than 30K for the last two years combined and have now depleted all of our resources. We can't pay our auto taxes to keep our vehicles legal, and we are behind on most bills. When Johnny isn't flaring he gets odd jobs around our mountain, and when I am well, I do tutoring, but it's not been enough when both of us struggle with health issues at the same time. Gas expenses alone to all of my appointments has been killing us.
We live simply enough, and once we get over our hump we should be fine...but right now, we need a push over that hump. It's hard to be in such a public and vulnerable position of asking for help, but we're down to the end of our rope"
We're asking for help from our community to get them to a stable place this next month, and to get caught up on bills. We know that this is a trying time for just about everyone, and we that much more appreciate each and every little bit donated. Thank you so much.
