Aloha everyone, I hope this message finds you safe and dry after Hurricane Lala made historic landfall here on the Big Island. My name is Luke Green, and I am writing on behalf of my moms, Carol Parrish and Beth Fuller.
Yesterday at around 6 p.m., they were sheltering in place in their home in Kapa’au when a large gust began to peel the roof off their home. Beth’s car was hit by the damage, but they were able to get themselves, their dogs, and their cars off the property. Their cat ran off in the frightening moment, and they still have chickens there as well.
Unfortunately, this comes after Beth’s job was recently eliminated and my mom has been retired for several years. They were weeks away from opening a new bake stand and garden wares shop, “Two Aunties Kohala Mala.” We had just spent days painting all their new signs and the stand itself.
This was supposed to sustain their lives, and now, unfortunately, due to no fault of their own, they find themselves homeless and without their gardens. My moms are kind, hardworking people. They have maintained the home and gardens for over seven years at their property, and now are left hanging in the balance. They are seeking food and shelter for themselves and their pets. Anything helps! Mahalo nui loa.
