Carmen recently had a successful surgery this week, as well as another Birthday (2/24). The Baclofen pump install was successfully installed on Wednesday, February 21st, and Carmen will rehab at TIRR MEMORIAL HERMANN for one week.

Our beloved Carmen Cunningham, a devoted wife, and mother of four, has been battling a severe health crisis since May 7, 2023, in Waianae, Hawaii. Carmen was found unresponsive by her 3 yr. old. He alerted his father, and her husband, Alex. While dialing 411, Alex alerted Carmen’s mom, Velita, who was in the next room. They both performed CPR until the paramedics arrived. Lifesaving measures were administered until a pulse was achieved. The prolonged loss of oxygen to her brain left her in a comatose state. Her diagnosis was Anoxic Brain Injury and Long QT, a hereditary heart condition.

Carmen's strength and resilience have always been an inspiration to those around her. She has faced life's challenges head-on with unwavering determination, and now she needs our support more than ever. We are determined to provide her with the best possible care and a chance for a meaningful recovery.

On July 3, 2023, Carmen was flown from Hawaii to San Diego, CA where she is receiving treatment at Kindred Hospital. Her mom has been with her throughout this journey to make sure that she is getting the care that she needs. While the medical team in San Diego is doing everything they can, we believe that a specialized neuro-recovery center offers the tailored care and expertise necessary for her complex condition.

We are actively seeking to relocate Carmen to a facility that specializes in Neuro recovery and rehabilitation, where her unique needs can be met with the utmost attention and expertise.

However, we cannot do this alone. The costs associated with transferring Carmen to a specialized center and ensuring her ongoing care is substantial. We are humbly reaching out to our community, friends, and anyone with a kind heart to help us raise the funds needed to make this critical move a reality.
