Carmen's Story

This fundraising page has been put together by work colleagues, friends and family in support of our dear friend, Carmen, who was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in May of 2021.

This diagnosis was an absolute shock to both Carmen and her family. Carmen has been in a whirlwind of medical diagnoses, complications, emotional turmoil and significant pain since this unfortunate and unjust journey began. Carmen went from a normal workday in the office to being hospitalised with this terrible news within one day. She then had a 6-week hospital admission to receive emergency treatment.

Carmen is an amazing Mother of four beautiful kids, Josette, Dalton, Bailey and Jordan, and a wife to her loving husband, Darren. Carmen is also a Daughter, Sister, friend, active member of the community and a much-loved workmate.

Carmen has worked in healthcare for over 30 years, caring for others with dedication and passion. She is the most caring, selfless, kind and generous woman. She always puts the needs of others before her own and is always the first person to stretch out a hand to anyone in need. Carmen's attitude remains positive, despite the challenges that she is facing. Even at this time, she is still the first to check in on how everyone else is coping.

Carmen's goal in sharing her deeply personal story is to empower others to advocate for their health rights and find their voice, even when it's challenging to do so. Carmen is hopeful that others will take control of their own health and make sure to have regular health checks including self breast examinations and screening.

As you can imagine, Carmen's diagnosis has sent shockwaves through her family and they are now dealing with the financial issues that come with the required treatment and medication. There are many costs that need to be covered to support Carmen and her family at this time. We are hoping to raise enough money to ease the financial stress on Carmen and her family, and to allow her to access the medical treatment, assistive equipment and home modifications that she needs.
