Hello everyone this is my beautiful mom Carmen Ledezma. Her cancer journey began when she got Covid back in September 2021. The virus caused her to develop COPD, “Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease”, which really took a toll on her health and well-being, causing her to have trouble breathing. She went to the doctors office for a CAT scan and an MRI to check her lungs.
    While she was there, she was randomly asked if she would like to have a mammogram done. After the the mammogram and multiple biopsies, our mother was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer on November 10, 2021. This was shocking news for her because she never felt any lumps on her breasts. She had a total of three biopsies done on her left breast. Then on February 4th, 2022, she had a double mastectomy. When the tissues of both breasts were sent to pathology it was discovered that not only did she have cancer in her left breast and a cancerous lymph node, but had cancer also in her right breast as well, which then made her progress to stage 2 breast cancer. The doctor was surprised to find that the mammograms only picked up cancer in the left breast. Our mom made the right choice to have a double mastectomy, and remove both breasts.
    Now because of these new findings and how aggressive and undetectable her cancer was, she now needs to undergo 6 cycles of chemo and radiation to further assist with making sure there is no possible leftover cancer cells in her body. As well as taking chemo medication for a year.
   Carmen has been strong and she is taking all of this very bravely she said she is scared but will fight to recover. Due to the chemo and radiation her hair will most likely fall out. Our family prays that all side effects from her treatments here on out will be tolerable for her. We hope that God hears our prayers and that he will keep all our family positive and strong to help her through her cancer recovery journey.
