My beautiful 11-year-old Cane Corso, Carmen, needs urgent surgery on her back, and I’m reaching out to my community for help.

She has a stubborn wound right in the middle of her back that just won’t heal. After trying many different treatments, her vets at Allison Animal Hospital have recommended that we remove it surgically as soon as possible. Thankfully, she won’t need to go under full anesthesia—just a local—but it’s still surgery, and it does need to be done quickly.

For those who don’t know Carmen’s story: She was found on the side of the road in Texas, horribly wounded, horrifically overbred, with cuts and bruises all over her body and next to skeletal. She was rescued by the wonderful people at Six Pines Sanctuary, then brought to New York by Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, where I adopted her in August 2020.

She has been the absolute light of my life ever since. She’s a celebrity in Prospect Park—everyone knows her, everywhere we go. She is the most good-natured, wonderful dog anyone could hope to meet, and I only want to give her the very best care possible.

The funds will help cover the cost of the surgery itself, plus the surgical recovery clothes she’ll need afterward. It’s going to be a stretch for me financially, so any little bit you can give means the world. And if we raise more than the costs, I’ll donate the extra to Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue so they can help the next dog in need.
