HI, my name is Shauna and I am Carmen's sister. I'm reaching out with a heavy heart to share that Carmen has recently been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer at just 54 years old. The doctors have given her a prognosis of 6 to 12 months, and while this news has shaken us all, she is facing it with incredible courage and grace.
Carmen, also known as Squirt, Carmie and Auntie, is our daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend…She currently lives in Mexico, far from most of our family and support systems. As she begins this difficult journey, she's not only dealing with the emotional and physical toll of cancer, but also the terrifying possibility of losing her job, her income, and her independence.
Despite everything, her wish is simple: to remain independent and in her own home as long as possible, accompanied by Magic, her precious cat that she loves so dearly. She's mischievous, makes friends easily and is a kind-hearted, quiet soul, and now she needs help — even if she’s too proud to ask for it herself. This outcome is even more difficult, as she had quit smoking more than a year ago.
Your donation will go directly toward:
• Daily living expenses (rent, utilities, food)
• Medical costs including medications, palliative and/or hospice care, as her coverage in Mexico is limited
• Transportation to and from treatments
• Pet care, which brings her so much comfort
Even the smallest gift helps — and so does sharing this post with others who know and love her.
Thank you for helping us give her peace of mind, dignity, and support during this time. She may feel isolated, but we want to show her that she is not alone.
With deep gratitude,
Carmen's Family
