I'm Carly, and nearly a year and a half ago, I got unexpectedly fired from my tech job while I was still recovering from a case of COVID-19. In the past losing a job has been something easy to bounce back from, but unfortunately every major tech company did layoffs around that time, and jobs had already been thin on the ground since the previous year.
Since then, I've been making ends meet via freelancing, occasional temp work, and generous help from family, but given the fact that the economy is only getting more unstable, not less, I want to take some serious steps to breathe some new life into my career. While technology is my passion, programming isn't the only thing I can apply it to, nor is it the only skill I have. As a result, I've decided to get certified as a paralegal.
I'm taking courses through my local community college, but it's still not cheap! Tuition adds up to $3,270 for 24 credits, and that's not counting school fees, textbooks, and any other miscellaneous expenses that might pop up. (That, and any financial hit I'll be taking from spending time away from freelancing on school and—excitingly!—our new baby!) If I work really hard, I can be done in less than a year! So my goal is to cover most of tuition for Fall Term, and if I get more than that, it'll also cover textbooks and school fees.
