Help Carl's Family Navigate Medical Crisis

My husband, Carl Armbruster suffered a massive heart attack on Friday, June 14th. I had to administer CPR until rescue arrived. Carl was medivacd by helicopter from St. Joseph’s in Tucson to Banner University in Phoenix .

Carl recently retired after 22 years, working at Pima county waste water and is on Medicare and a small pension; however, our future financial stress will be stretched as we have four children and I am having to driving back and forth (Phoenix-Tucson) and cannot afford a temporary location in Phoenix. Carl will need to remain hospitalized for at least 60-days.

Carl is 58- years old and a member of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) and American Legion member. After joining the Army in 1985, he proudly served during the Persian Gulf War. After being honorably discharged in 1994, he became an active Legionnaire. Carl was a three (3) time Detachment Commander for the SAL in Arizona (1998-2000). He also served as the Area A Department Vice Commander and represented the southern portion of Arizona. He is also the Past Department of Arizona Sergeant-at-Arms.

He ran his chairs, all the way to National Vice Commander(western division) focusing on the Legion, while completing his responsibilities at Post 36 in Tucson. Carls dad and mom were also Legionnaires. His dad was in the Air Force and his mom was a nurse in the Army.

Carl and I have four children (two boys & two girls) all under the teenage years. One of our daughters is severely disabled, she is a non-verbal spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy and congenital hepatic fibrosis (she will eventually need a liver transplant) Respite care will only take care of our severely disabled daughter and will not take care of the other children. Even if I hire another babysitter to watch the other children, respite care will not work with another care giver due to it being a liability. Hence, why the children have to travel with me back and forth to Phoenix.

I am not traveling everyday to see Carl, because of our severely disabled daughter’s therapies and weekly specialty doctor visits. I am traveling every other day up to Phoenix and moving appointments around accordingly.
