Help Support Carlos Sotelo in His Fight for Time, Faith, and Family
In 2017, our lives changed forever when my brother was given a diagnosis that doctors said would give him only 5–10 years to live: Congestive Heart Failure and Chronic Kidney Disease. By God’s grace, we are now at year 7, and we are incredibly thankful for every extra moment we’ve been given with him.
Today, he is facing an even more difficult battle. His body is going through multi-organ failure with his heart and kidneys being severely affected, and now his liver is beginning to fail as well due to ongoing heart complications. On top of that, he suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, which makes it even harder for doctors to treat his heart condition.
He has already been denied a transplant twice because doctors believe his body may not survive such a major operation. We are now seeking help from another hospital with more experience in complex, multi-organ cases, holding on to hope for another chance.
He is currently undergoing dialysis, but it is taking a heavy toll on his already weakened heart. As his condition progresses, he has become increasingly frail and requires constant care.
Right now, there is only one full-time, unpaid caregiver supporting both him and our mother 24/7. This has made everyday life extremely difficult financially. Medical equipment, medications, frequent hospital visits, including trips out of town, and basic living expenses are becoming overwhelming. He has spent his last two birthdays in a hospital room.
On top of everything, we are also struggling with urgent home needs, including restoring our gas service after a major leak that requires repairs, along with an overdue bill. The home is not adequate for the option of Peritoneal Dialysis, which is an option that we may do in the future since it is easier on the heart.
Despite all of this, his spirit remains unshaken.
Before his illness, he worked as a Level 3 commissioned security guard and had dreams of joining the police force. But everything changed as his health declined.
In 2021, he experienced a profound spiritual transformation and found God in a way that completely changed his life. Even after losing his vision due to diabetic retinopathy, he never lost faith. After enduring multiple surgeries and hemorrhages, he was blessed to regain his sight.
Today, his greatest dream is not for himself, but to share his story, spread hope, and one day become a preacher to inspire others through faith and perseverance.
We are asking for help to ease the growing financial burden so we can focus on his care, his comfort, and making the most of the time we have left together.
