My name is Carlos, and at just 30 years old, I was diagnosed with clear cell chondrosarcoma—a rare and aggressive bone cancer. The diagnosis turned our world upside down. I had to undergo a major hip replacement surgery, and suddenly, everything about our lives—our future, our plans, our stability—was on shaky ground.
With the future of my Army career uncertain, my family and I are preparing for a massive life transition. Two of my close friends are already working on post in Japan, and they’re helping me get a network engineering job lined up there. Moving to Japan would mean a fresh start after cancer, a stable income for my family, and an opportunity to rebuild our lives. It would mean hope. But between medical bills, a newborn on the way, a mortgage at Fort Riley, and preparing for a possible move across the world, we’re stretched to our absolute limit.
Your support would help us with medical and recovery expenses, supporting my wife and children through this transition, financial relief as we face the Med Board’s outcome, preparing for the move to Japan and a new career, and giving me the chance to restore my E36—my one creative outlet, my therapy, my hope. Anything you can give—even a small amount—makes a difference. Your support reminds us that we’re not alone in this fight. Thank you, truly, for helping my family find hope again.
