This is Carlos and he's the sweetest, most hard working guy around. He's a welder and metal worker by trade and a damn good one at that. In fact, for the last 10 years he's been welding massive cruise ships and boats at different marinas around NYC, saving up to bring his family to America from Colombia. About a year ago, Carlos was in a bad accident which pinned him between the hull of the ship and a mooring bollard (the huge thing that ships tie onto). His hip was shattered and he was hospitalized for 6 weeks, undergoing multiple surgeries and rehab. He was finally released only to be stuck with some substantial medical bills (no insurance) and here's the worst part of the story- While he was in the hospital, all of his tools and equipment was stolen from the job site (welding machine, plasma cutter, grinders, masks, sanders, compressor, etc...) So, now he's literally got no way to dig out of the debt that he's found himself in. He's confided in me and told me this was a debilitating and dark time for him. He didn't leave the house for weeks and had trouble finding the strength to begin again. He's now taking every job he can get and RENTING the equipment he needs for each job (which comes out of his take at the end of each day). The purpose of this GoFundMe is to buy him a new set of tools, to help him get back to work and provide for himself and his family. If anyone deserves this sort of help, it's Carlos. I've witnessed his work ethic firsthand and its second to none. He would also never ask for a handout and so I had to get creative in getting all of the details above.
