On January 25th, Carlos received the difficult news that a recent MRI scan revealed a large meningioma on the left side of his brain. The tumor has grown to about the size of a fist and is pushing from his brain into his left optical orbit.

Carlos had been experiencing numerous symptoms for the past year. In the last 6-8 months, Carlos has developed proptosis (eye bulging) in his left eye. After countless doctor visits, Carlos was finally referred to a neurologist who ordered an MRI scan where the tumor was found. Finding the right team of surgeons for Carlos’ surgery has been a difficult and emotional process. The good news is that Carlos' surgery is now schedule for March 10th at OHSU. Carlos’ tumor removal will require a team of three specialized surgeons at OHSU. It is anticipated that Carlos will spend 7 – 10 days in recovery at OHSU, followed by another 8 – 12 weeks at home.

If you know Carlos, you likely already know that he was diagnosed with Leukemia at the young age of 5. After a difficult road to recovery, Carlos has been in remission since 2001. During his cancer treatment, Carlos received radiation in his head. The doctors believe that the radiation treatment is the cause of the brain tumor.

Carlos lives with his girlfriend, Jessica, and their two corgi pups, Putter and Mulligan. Carlos is a kind, compassionate and generous soul that is always looking to help others. Now is our opportunity to help Carlos overcome yet another difficult medical challenge in his young life of only 29 years.

Donations will be used to help aid Carlos in his recovery, including medical bills such as uncovered surgery costs and post-operative care, travel expenses for Carlos and his immediate family, and to help financially support Carlos during this time of unpaid leave from work.
