My name is Carla, and I’ve been a semi-truck driver for over 20 years, working with the same company since 2012. I’ve always taken pride in my dedication, safety, and work ethic. But in February 2025, my world was turned upside down. Without warning, my health insurance was cancelled while I was on an active route. The next day, I was told I was under investigation and could not work. By March, I was terminated.

Because of this, I had to cancel my annual mammogram, a routine I’ve kept for eight years. In May, I participated in a free lung scan, and to my shock, a mass was found in my breast. Further testing confirmed it was cancer. I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and used up all my savings on medical bills and basic living expenses. Eventually, my company offered my job back, and I regained health insurance to continue my treatment and recovery. But on December 19, 2025, I was terminated again, losing my insurance right in the middle of my treatment. Now, my funds are depleted, I can’t afford COBRA insurance, and my living expenses are mounting. I am devastated to be in this position, but I have less than 30 days to secure insurance and continue my care. My next surgery is scheduled for January 21, 2026, and I have no income to cover my needs.

I have always cared deeply for others, and it’s difficult to ask for help. But cancer is devastating, especially when the odds are stacked against you. Your support will reinforce my belief that there are people who truly care, and I know the cancer community is larger and more supportive than we often realize.
