Hi, my name is Chelsey, and I am raising funds for my sister, Carissa.

Our lives changed in an instant! my sister is a victim of a hit and run caused by a drunk driver. She suffered a devastating traumatic brain injury and underwent emergency brain surgery, during which part of the left side of her skull was removed to relieve the pressure on her brain.

Carissa is a loving mother of four beautiful children, and today she remains in a coma. She has a tracheostomy to help her breathe and a PEG tube for nutrition because she cannot eat on her own. She is unable to move independently and requires 24-hour care.

Following her doctors’ recommendation, our family has been instructed to bring Carissa home so we can continue caring for her. We are committed to doing everything possible to give her the best care, but we have learned that many of the specialized medical supplies and equipment she needs are not being provided.

We are raising funds to purchase the essential equipment that will allow us to care for Carissa safely and comfortably at home. The most important item is a specialized hospital bed that can raise, lower, and tilt side to side because she cannot reposition herself. This type of bed will help us safely reposition her, reduce the risk of pressure sores, and provide the level of care she needs every day. We also need a suction machine, tracheostomy supplies, PEG feeding supplies, positioning pillows, and other medically necessary equipment.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward Carissa’s care and the equipment she needs. If you’re unable to donate, we completely understand. Sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, coworkers, and community would mean the world to us.
