My name is Carey, and I’ve been living with Bell’s palsy since I was two years old. For most of my life, I didn’t realize how much I relied on my teeth to help me speak until I lost them all. After my teeth were pulled, I had to relearn how to talk, and while I’ve made progress, it’s still a struggle—especially when I’m nervous. My mouth looks more crooked than ever, and it’s affected my confidence in ways I never expected.
Eating has always been a challenge for me. In my teens, I struggled with anorexia and bulimia, which damaged my esophagus. Years later, severe acid reflux caused even more damage, leading to scar tissue that closed off the opening to my stomach. Without insurance, I spent five years unable to eat solid food, and even now, after medical procedures, I can only eat certain foods because chewing without teeth is painful and difficult. Dentures didn’t work for me—they were too big, uncomfortable, and made it impossible to speak or close my mouth naturally. I tried online solutions, but after spending money and getting nowhere, I felt hopeless.
It’s been nine years since I lost my teeth, and my health is deteriorating because I can’t eat healthy foods. I hate the way I look, and every attempt to find a solution has been met with obstacles. Dentists have told me my bone loss is too severe for regular dentures, and my only hope is dental implants, which are expensive and require special procedures. I’ve tried dental schools, specialists, and even secret shopper jobs to find answers. Recently, I found a clinic that can help, but the cost is far beyond what I can afford, especially with my credit and health challenges. I’m working hard to improve my situation, but I need help to get my life back on track.
If you have it in your heart to help, I want to personally thank you. Your support means more than you could imagine and will help me in so many ways—from eating healthy and speaking clearly to regaining my confidence and quality of life.
