In the early hours of Saturday, March 6, Home Care Solutions Caregiver of the Year Denise Delong and her husband escaped after a second-alarm house fire in a neighboring, empty structure spread to their duplex on North Derbigny St. in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Thankfully, they escaped unharmed with their pets, but the Delongs lost everything. Denise's husband has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and is disabled, so the Delongs were offered temporary housing to get them out of the smoke. However, where they ultimately end up will be far more costly than their duplex on North Derbigny St.
Our family is forever indebted to Denise. She provided invaluable care for our mom, Wendy Schornstein Good, as she lost her life to glioblastoma brain cancer. Whether Denise was taking her for a walk around the block or holding her during seizures, Denise was Wendy's faithful caretaker, confidant and friend. We know if Wendy was still alive, it would be her name on this GoFundMe. Denise is currently helping to care for Wendy's parents and has been wonderful to them.
Denise is family, and she needs our help. This longtime, award-winning caregiver has provided comfort and companionship for so many families - it's her turn to be cared for.
Your donations will help the Delongs with immediate essential needs (rent, clothes, furniture, a TV, medications, etc.) and long-term recovery. Anything you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated.
Please note Wendy’s sister, Ellen Williams, has been designated as the beneficiary solely for the purposes of the Delongs getting your contributions in-hand as quickly as possible.
Love,
Emily & Allison
