EMERGENCY FUNDRAISER
Dr. Linda Leech, a licensed counselor/therapist in the Columbia area, has been using Equine Therapy with her clients for 20 years. She works with clients with behavioral issues, mental health diagnoses, autism and spectrum disorders as well as marriage and family counseling. Her clients range in age from preschoolers to mature adults.
Recently, the program has taken a financial hit due to Covid-19, in more than one way. Dr. Leech has utilized tele-counseling when she and her clients are able and she has continued having clients come to the farm to be with the horses in a limited capacity during the past year.
The program has taken an even greater hit because she personally contracted Covid-19 early this year. Due to the effects of Covid, she has remained unable to work much at all, even via teleconferencing.
More recently it was found that she had a benign polyp in her liver that was blocking the outflow. On Friday, March 12, 2021, Dr. Leech had a surgical procedure to remove part of the polyp and put in a stent to allow bile to flow, and all seemed well. She had internal bleeding afterwards, and three procedures later, she was intubated and in ICU. Bleeding stopped, but they needed time to closely monitor to stabilize her. They took her off the ventilator and she seemed okay.
Late Sunday night, March 14, however, she aspirated, causing some significant lung damage, and she was intubated again.
Dr. Leech passed away on 3/16/2021.
Dr. Leech’s 30+ horses (most are Rescues) still need to be cared for during these difficult times. We currently have 3 faithful volunteers who have been feeding and caring for the horses twice a day, seven days a week, using personal finances. With no current income, we need Emergency Assistance to feed these horses. They go through approximately 24 bags of various feeds a WEEK, which can be extremely costly.
Thank you from all the horses at Hooves, Hearts & Hope!
