After 10 years of living in Clifden, Martin, Cara, and Aiden Shanahan embarked on an adventure and left friends, family, and Aiden’s sports teams to buy a house in Kiltimagh, Mayo. It was a good house, but had been vacant for a while and needed some work. They hired someone they trusted to help renovate it. He turned out to be a con man.

He took all their money, destroyed their home, and disappeared. He won’t answer their calls or emails. To make matters worse, Cara worked for him, so she is without income now as well.

They are stuck. Their home now has no roof, ceilings, walls, and the electrics, floors and all the plaster has been compromised due to the rain. Their lease on the 1 bedroom flat they were lucky enough to find, expires Oct 6, 2025 and they have nowhere to go. They are understandably devastated, angry, and doing everything they can and exploring every avenue to get back into their home. So far things are going frustratingly slow. At this point they are just desperate to find a roof to put over Aiden’s head.

Although they are embarrassed, I convinced Cara and Martin to share their story because I was so bothered that their silence was costing their friends the opportunity to help.

So, if you're as righteously angered as I am, help me make things better. Funds will be used for rent, and to help waterproof the house so no more damage is done. Prayers, and/ or kind words are so very appreciated.

If you prefer another payment method, say the word and we'll make it happen. Thank you so much!
