Captain O’Malley has been part of the Bajah’s family since the day he came through our doors. Born October 26th, 2014, he found his forever home with a wonderful woman named Laurie, who has cared for him with total commitment and love since the moment she adopted him.
On October 26th, Captain O’Malley became suddenly and severely ill, beginning what has now become a major medical crisis. Laurie rushed him to Bay State Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Services, where he was admitted and immediately placed under intensive care. What started as a concern about not eating quickly unfolded into a complicated and frightening situation.
Since October 26th, Captain O’Malley has required:
Multiple in-patient exams and emergency consultations
Continuous hospitalization from 10/26–10/30
IV fluids, electrolytes, and multiple rounds of antibiotics, including Unasyn and Enrofloxacin
Cerenia and Ondansetron (Zofran) injections for severe nausea
Pain management, including Buprenorphine
Blood pressure monitoring, packed cell volume/total solids testing, CBC panels, PT tests, and urine sediment analysis
Radiographs
Daily nursing care at intermediate and extended levels
Lactulose enemas, Miralax, Cisapride, Gabapentin, and other supportive medications
Placement of a nasogastric feeding tube on 10/29, because he completely stopped eating on his own
Royal Canin Recovery liquid feeding through the tube
Ongoing tube care fees and rechecks
He is being treated for suspected pancreatitis, a kidney infection, a UTI, and severe gastrointestinal complications — all at the same time. Laurie shared that he’s so uncomfortable he “hates her guts right now,” but that’s only because he is fighting incredibly hard to survive.
By October 30th, Captain O’Malley’s bill reached $4,473.72, and that total represents only the care already provided — not including the continuing treatment he still needs.
Laurie has never once hesitated to do everything for him. She has stayed by his side through every update, every setback, and every hard decision. She has already paid thousands out of pocket, and she has never asked for help — but right now, she truly needs it. No one expects a four-day emergency hospitalization with multiple complications, tube placement, and round-the-clock care. And no one should have to face this alone.
Every donation goes directly toward Captain O’Malley’s medical care and recovery. Even a small amount makes a real difference. Sharing the fundraiser helps just as much.
Thank you for standing with Laurie and Captain O’Malley. He is loved, he is fighting, and with your help, he has a chance to come home and heal.
