Capt Tim was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of his throat in December 2019 during a routine scope. He received 62 radiation treatments of neck/ throat area from March through May. I believe he had every side effect, lost thyroid, hormones, teeth continue to deteriorate and need removed. The end of June 2022. Capt Tim ended up a CODE BLUE in the Citrus Memorial Hospital. Epiglottis fell off, not able to swallow effectively causing aspiration pneumonia and then his throat swelled completely shut and he was unable to breathe. ER team hardly able to save him could not get tube down to intubate him throat swelled shut like a brick wall. After several days in ICU he acquired a tracheostomy and a peg tube to upper abdomen for tube feedings. The supplies and care has been emense. He has continued to have increasing throat complications. Repeat Biopsies at Tampa General Hospital in 2023. Came back negative. Capt Tim's throat closing up with scar tissue and scheduled for scar tissue removal and any restoration in voice for he has not been able to speak for a year on February 5th, 2024 at Tampa General. We had to pay $7,000 out of pocket. During this procedure a large mass was found left upper throat with roots that cover a massive area. Capt Tim's headaches have been unbearable with mass pushing on and into major nerves. He is disabled and I have hardly been able to work due to his pain, doctor visits, unable to speak and nursing care. CT with contrast was done of chest, neck and head. Multiple doctors are planning a fast total laryngectomy with removal of tongue, esophagus, windpipe large section to side of throat that is cancerous. Approximately a 12 hr surgery. Plastic surgeon to re-create esophagus, windpipe act out of tissue and muscles out of his thighs/legs as needed. We have preoperative testing, echocardiogram, hematology for iron infusion, the next 2 weeks with planned surgery date of March 20th at Tampa General. Capt Tim is eligible for Medicare June 5th. There will be huge co-pays with his treatment, surgery that has to be now. It cannot wait. If anyone has it on their heart to help with this financial load on us of Capt Tim's battle with cancer. It is appreciated.
